Lock-down fails to restrain demand

The Locke & Hanna families were delighted with strong support at their Spring Bull & Female Sale held on 25th August 2021. “We knew the crowd numbers attending the sale would be severely curtailed by the COVID-19 lock-down restrictions,” Ian Locke said, “However, we couldn’t have predicted the confidence shown by clients, whether they were attending the sale or operating remotely via AuctionsPlus, to bid strongly across the board to produce our highest ever sale average and gross results with a full clearance”.
With 70 registered bidders on-farm and 200 registered bidders on AuctionsPlus, the on-line bidding continues to play a major role with 50 of the 73 lots offered (68%) going to remote on-line bidders.
The sale bulls averaged $16,207. This was a 25% lift from the Autumn sale and 100% increase above the equivalent Spring Sale in 2020. The PTIC heifer lots were also in hot demand, averaging $6,270 for the 12 individual lots and $4,567/hd for the group lots.
Ian Locke commented that the great aspect about the sale was that it was solid throughout the whole draft, “It wasn’t like a few high prices, lifting the average. The sale was solid with good commercial interest across the board. Interestingly, the specialist heifer bulls averaged higher than the growth and muscle bull categories.”
The team at Wirruna would like to thank all clients for their support and we look forward to following the progress of these bulls and females over time.
