The Wirruna herd was open to visitors on Day 1 of the Beef Week Field Days on Monday 25th July 2016. Conditions were cold, wet and boggy in the yards. However, this did not deter the enthusiasm of visitors that were made up of existing Wirruna clients, agents and new people that were keen to inspect the sale cattle and understand the commercially focussed genetic program offered at Wirruna Poll Herefords. Many people commented favourably on the docility of the cattle and the muscle shown in the sale draft.
Wirruna’s Breeding Objectives
“Wirruna’s breeding objective is to breed Bulls that are fully described and have the genetic & physical ability to meet market specifications and breeding objectives of the client. Keeping in mind that a balance is required where the female portion of the progeny are required to be highly fertile and efficient.”
Quality Beyond Genetics
The cattle are run under strict commercial stress conditions, at well above district average stocking rates, under a grass-fed production system.
There is no selection compromise for fertility. The trait of highest economic importance has the highest selection pressure for bulls and females. In selecting other traits, we seek a balanced approach.
